Cold Weather Deer Count

Filed under: DEER MANAGEMENT — Administrator @ 1:13 pm

WOW!!!! We counted over 60+ deer yesterday afternoon. The swamps have frozen over, and with tempetures under 25 deg. at night, the deer are herding up. We saw groups of 18 to 25 deer in the fields. We saw four herds in various fields around 5:00 pm. One field had 40+ deer grazing, with another 20+ deer comming into the field. The swamps hold them … but when the swamps freeze over …. they are comming out. Hope to have pictures.

Scouting for next year

Filed under: DEER MANAGEMENT — Administrator @ 11:58 am

The deer season is over, but there is work already to be done for next year. Salt blocks are put back out. Scouting Cameras are placed in travel and bedding areas, to see who survived the season. Plans are made to purchase a “Food Plot Drill’ manufactured by Kasco. PH levels of the soil are tested in various parts of the farms that we manage. Lime will be placed, according to the PH numbers. Deer stands need to be checked, some need to be moved, and others need to be replaced. We will be ordering our seeds for various mixed receipes, to create the cafeteria for deer. April is not that far off to start planting.

Summary of 2007-08 Deer Season

Filed under: WELCOME — Administrator @ 12:32 pm

We had a great Deer Hunting Season, with great friendships being built, and a “outdoor experience” that can’t be replaced. There were 37 booked hunting days, with 30 harvest opportunties. Of the 30 harvest opportunties, 22 deer were harvested, 11 missed shots. We had 7 days that we got skunked for one reason or another.  There were 28 deer that made it to the skinn’n pole (22 harvested by our guest, 6 harvested by our guides). Three Bucks made it to the wall.  All the hounds surrvived the season with flying colors.

We will take a breather before Spring Gobbler season.

Christmas Holidays

Filed under: WELCOME — Administrator @ 12:07 pm

There has been a good mix of hunters from near and far who came to hunt with us. We have had some excellant days, and a day or two where we could not make it happen. We also have met a good number of new friends, and hunters that we hope to see again. The season has been good, with great chases, and excellant weather, and good harvest opportunties for most of our guest. We have had 20 deer come to the skin’n pole, and the last week of Deer season is just ahead of us.

2nd week of December

Filed under: WELCOME — Administrator @ 11:59 am

Our hunts have produced harvest opportunties for all our guest. Our last five hunts have put meat on the pole four times. We have harvested 15 deer so far, with many hunts planned for the upcomming weeks. The last two hunts gave each guest a nice buck to take home. The weather has been perfect, and the hounds have been giving it their all ….. the music of the chase has been awsome!! Freezer is filling up nicely, with deer burgers, and tenderloins. Today …. we will be making and freezing deer BBQ. (receipe to follow) RT

Wraping Up November

Filed under: WELCOME — Administrator @ 11:02 am

It’s been an action packed last couple of weeks …. we have a total of 13 deer harvested from our various farms. We have had a few “first timmers”, took a “trophy” size buck, few smaller mature bucks, and mixture of does. We will have a “doe day” this Saturday ….. a good time to remove some does from our over populated herds.  R.T.

Opening Day ….

Filed under: WELCOME — Administrator @ 6:55 pm

Nov. 17, 07 - openning day. We had two parties to guide. Both parties had 3 guest each. Each party had youths, and also hunters that have not bagged a deer. Our plan was to work the hounds like we always do … place the hunters in locations that the deer will travel when the hounds give chase, and let the rest be in the hands of the hunters. Morning hunt moved plenty of deer, all does, but our Guest enjoyed the music of beagles giving chase and seeing plenty of does. After lunch, we moved to another farm, placing our Guest on stands. Working small packs of hounds we jumped deer all afternoon. Before the day was done … we had a “trophy 8 pointer” harvested by a Guest of one party, and a mature spike buck harvested by a  young hunter who took his first deer today, from the other party. This young hunter had his 15th birthday last week, and this hunt was his birthday present.   Great hunt!!!!   -pictures to follow-

Many opportunties for all of our guest to harvest deer. We have had five deer on the skin’n pole and one coyote for the buzzards. “General Firearm Season” starts this Saturday 11/17/07……
