Cold Weather Deer Count

Filed under: DEER MANAGEMENT — Administrator @ 1:13 pm

WOW!!!! We counted over 60+ deer yesterday afternoon. The swamps have frozen over, and with tempetures under 25 deg. at night, the deer are herding up. We saw groups of 18 to 25 deer in the fields. We saw four herds in various fields around 5:00 pm. One field had 40+ deer grazing, with another 20+ deer comming into the field. The swamps hold them … but when the swamps freeze over …. they are comming out. Hope to have pictures.

Scouting for next year

Filed under: DEER MANAGEMENT — Administrator @ 11:58 am

The deer season is over, but there is work already to be done for next year. Salt blocks are put back out. Scouting Cameras are placed in travel and bedding areas, to see who survived the season. Plans are made to purchase a “Food Plot Drill’ manufactured by Kasco. PH levels of the soil are tested in various parts of the farms that we manage. Lime will be placed, according to the PH numbers. Deer stands need to be checked, some need to be moved, and others need to be replaced. We will be ordering our seeds for various mixed receipes, to create the cafeteria for deer. April is not that far off to start planting.

Summary of 2007-08 Deer Season

Filed under: WELCOME — Administrator @ 12:32 pm

We had a great Deer Hunting Season, with great friendships being built, and a “outdoor experience” that can’t be replaced. There were 37 booked hunting days, with 30 harvest opportunties. Of the 30 harvest opportunties, 22 deer were harvested, 11 missed shots. We had 7 days that we got skunked for one reason or another.  There were 28 deer that made it to the skinn’n pole (22 harvested by our guest, 6 harvested by our guides). Three Bucks made it to the wall.  All the hounds surrvived the season with flying colors.

We will take a breather before Spring Gobbler season.
